The light from the brighter blocks is enough to bias my eyes from seeing them. Values of 70 and below on the DNR low pattern can be very difficult to see. From Tyler's explanation in the Murideo Calman 2020 video it should, but then another post here stated that it doesn't. I've been wondering if the shadow detail adjustment actually changes reference black (16 in 8-bit, 64 in 10-bit).

I'll probably take another crack when Portrait's new tutorial videos and brightness patterns are live soon.Ĭlick to expand. Thanks for sharing this. Gave it a test run on Pixar's SOUL, which was lovely and has a few zero-black, high-contrast sequences in the beginning.

Streaming DV is looking about as good as I can imagine since the new firmware. Not exactly sure how many bars I should be able to perceive without a jeweller's loupe or whatever, but they are quite small on this particular pattern.Įither way, happy with the result. On detail value 72, the last bar I could see clearly flashing was probably 71. Weirdly, it seemed like the background of the pattern video would start to glow (represented as just-above-black "dithery" noise in the top left corner of screen) before all the flashing bars above 64 would flash. Using the recommended shadow detail point of 14, the detail value I landed on was 72. I re-auto-calibrated Dolby Vision on my CX last night to take advantage of the Spears & Munsil 10-bit brightness pattern video (that I can now use via USB with firmware 03.21.09).
